Crackdown on Reckless Riders
From WTOL -
LUCAS COUNTY (WTOL) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is cracking down on reckless motorcycle drivers.Starting Wednesday, August 6 through September 5, troopers will be looking for motorcyclists who are driving recklessly and speeding. Officers will also be enforcing motorcycle licensing laws.
The patrol will be focused on Airport Highway, the Anthony Wayne Trail, and Detroit Avenue in Toledo.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says motorcycle wrecks are up this year. In 2007, Lucas County has three fatal motorcycle crashes. This year, they have matched that number in only seven months.
Also, there is an increase in motorcycles on the roadways locally. In Lucas County, there are 9,000 motorcycles registered with the BMV and 20,000 motorcycle endorsements on Ohio licenses.
