Last week, Owens Community College demonstrated their new Lincoln Electric VRTEX 360 welding simulators.

I tried my hand (that’s not me in the pic below) at it to evaluate the realism, and I can say without a doubt that it feels realistic even down to the audio. For a welder that is just starting training or apprenticeship, the VRTEX 360 is perfect for learning the muscle memory required to make good welds.

Owens is excited about them because of the savings they’ll realize from using less electricity, consumables, and metal coupons.
