After the successful poker run, I decided to take a month off from updating this site. That's not to say that we didn't actually do anything or go anywhere for the past month.

When the weather would cooperate, we were riding somewhere.

I'll get everything back up to date over the weekend.

Earlier this Spring, two of our friends certified on all position at work. They threw a "checkout" party a couple of weeks ago. It was a great time spent with great people.

Congrats to Eric and Kevin on attaining the level of Certified Professional Controller.

Last week, we were in Buffalo, NY, visiting family. We decided to take the bikes up through customs to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

The ride up to the Rainbow Bridge was fairly uneventful. As we left the Buffalo Metro area, traffic thinned out significantly.

After clearing customs into Canada, we rode towards the falls. The roads in the area of the bridge were a bit of a challenge. There was a lot of starting, stopping, and turning on fairly steep hills. Keep in mind that Susan got her bike about a month ago, so she's still getting the feel for her bike.

We found parking and walked to the Elements on the Falls for lunch. We then rode the Maid of the Mist.

The Maid of the Mist is a ride that everyone should experience. The power of the falls is unbelievable. It makes it's own wind, and the sound is deafening.

The ride home wasn't as uneventful was the ride to the falls. Initially, the US customs guy wasn't very nice to us. Welcome home, right? He eventually chilled out and let us back into our country.

As we approached the Buffalo Metro, we hit rush hour traffic with an accident at the I90/I290 interchange. It was stop and go for a few miles. Weird thing about New York stop & go traffic. They still feel that it's necessary to honk the horn and flash their lights at you even if you can only move 5 feet before you reach the guy that's stopped in front of you. I wasn't a fan and let them know it. I got a sheepish look back from the driver.

I have to give Susan major props. She handled the crazy traffic like a pro even though she was most certainly a nervous wreck.

Disregarding the last half hour or so, it was a great ride and was a lot of fun. I've only been to the US side of the falls, so it was nice to see a different perspective.

(And in case you're wondering, the Canadians have a much better view of Niagara Falls.)

It seems that the last remnants of Winter are quickly fading and that Spring is finally here.

With temperatures on the rise, I took the opportunity to test ride our poker run route. It is about 65 miles roundtrip and took about 2 hours and 20 minutes with minimal stops.

I really like the route because you get to see how diverse the landscape is in NW Ohio. The route starts in a small suburb's community park and heads towards Toledo and Tony Packo's.

The segment from Packo's to Pub51 sees refineries and tank farms.

Turning Southbound from Pub51, you leave the urban sprawl and find yourself surrounded by farmlands until you cross the Maumee River again and ride into the small town of Waterville.

Then it's back into farmland to Skeeter's and back to Homecoming Park.

It was a fun ride yesterday, and I think that the poker run riders are going to enjoy it.

You can check out the route sheet and directions at alexandrasheart.com.
